Bluesky Architects attend Five Islands Academy, Isles of Scilly

October 15, 2024

Bluesky Architects recognise the huge impact that the new Isles of Scilly Integrated Health and Social Care facility will have for islanders. This project represents a significant investment by the NHS into health and social care services, which will leave a lasting legacy for the local community.

As the lead architect and healthcare planning partner for the project, Bluesky Architects are working with the NHS and project delivery partner Community 1st to ensure we maximise social value impact during the design and construction phase.

As part our social value commitments Kate Edwards, Healthcare Development Director from Bluesky Architects, was invited to Five Islands Academy, St Mary’s, where we were joined by representatives from the whole project delivery team Community 1st, tms, METS Ltd, and HULLEY & KIRKWOOD LIMITED to talk about careers in the design and construction industry and the wide range of roles and skills needed to make this local project a reality.

Together, we shared insights into our various responsibilities, individual career paths, and how we collaborate to deliver the new Health and Social Care facility on the island to design a building that meets the NHS service needs, as well the unique logistics that are required to get all the construction modular units, materials, and equipment to the island.

The school were engaged to learn about the diverse journeys that led to the positions our project delivery team hold today. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the next generation and showcase the wide range of opportunities available within our industry and to help make the design and construction industry more inclusive.
